Major: History and ATHS
Hi! I’m Eddie, a History and ATHS major in the class of 2021 from Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. I’ve been interested in Italian studies for years -in addition to some Italian history and literature classes I’ve taken at UR, I spent six years through middle and high school studying Latin -and I was extremely excited to get to learn about Italian history, language, and art on location during the Arezzo Program.
I’ve been to Italy twice before, once with my family when I was really little and again for a program with my high school, but every time I visit just makes me want to come back sooner for the next one. Since my last trip, I’ve developed a real interest in museum studies, interning at the American Museum of Natural History and the Museum of the City of New York, and I was lucky not only to get to see some of Italy’s countless fantastic museums but also to get to work at one, Arezzo’s own Museo Archaeologico.
I haven’t formally studied Italian at all before, and in addition to my Italian language course, I spent a lot of my time in Arezzo trying to learn as much as possible. My Latin background was a real help (even if a lot of the grammatical quirks of Italian are quite different), but nothing helped me learn like just talking to the peopleof Arezzo did. If I wasn’t at the Museo, going for a run in the park, or in class, I was easy to find testing my Italian out ordering coffee or a pizza at O’Scugnizzo.
